First off I want to start by telling you to go ahead and try this game.  Even if you rent it.  If you haven't played the other two games you will still have a large idea of what is happening.

The story is about Kratos.  Ex-god of war.  The gods have betrayed him, and he is after them, but mainly for Zeus.  In previous games Zeus killed Kratos as a god and sent him to the underworld, or Hades.  Hades could not contain Kratos so he was able to escape, but when he did he was just a mortal with incredible strength.  God of War III picks up with him seeking revenge.  In the first hour of gameplay you will kill your first god.  And it is an epic battle on a mountain with several titans at your side.  From their you go from god to god killing them as the world turns into chaos from the gods being gone.

The game offers challenge.  It depends on the mode you play on.  I played on easy for reviewing sake.  At times you will find yourself dieing at battles, and even puzzles.  You can then unlock Titan and Chaos modes after beating the game to make it even more difficult.

The game has stunning settings.  Even though the world is basically falling apart for most of the game it looked so good when you were outside for battles and could see as far as possible with just deserted lands, rain, tornadoes, and death.

The controls are pretty easy to handle.  Very similar to the older GoW games.  However, I can not stand that you can't control the camera.  They use the right anolog stick as rolling in a direction.  I am very sad that I couldn't view the temples, mountains, and other cool settings with different camer angles.

One thing this game has that a lot of other past-setting games don't have?  RESEARCH!  Whoever is in charge of the stuff they put in God of War III is a genius.  It's all real mythology with the gods, settings, items, and actions.  In this game you find Zeus, Cronos, Aphrodite, and even get to handle Pandora's Box.  All very cool because they bend the stories around a little to help make Krato's character fit.

One last complaint.  It's small but it was annoying.  Whenever you had to click an action button for let's say opening a gate.  Then you would have to be square in front of the gate and at a special angle.  If you were too much against the gate you couldn't open it and if you were too far away obviously you can't open it.  This was even worse with saves.  There are little glowing spots where you can save, and you can walk through them.  If you were in the glow the button would not come up to save.  Again with monsters.  When a monster is weakened and you can unleash some cool attacks upon them with pressing circle you have to be practically on top of them before you do so.

Rent or buy seems to be a large question with this game.  I recomend rent because of the short 7-10 hour gameplay.  However if you want to go for a platinum, because there are plenty of trophies, then be my guest and buy it.  You won't be dissapointed with this game.
